Preamble | Dego
Crossing the boundaries of soul, jazz, jungle, drum and bass, breakbeat, techno, hip hop, brazilian and broken beat, Dego has made an immeasurable (yet somewhat understated) influence on the UK dance and electronica music scene spanning the 90s and early noughties. It is little wonder that words like ‘pioneer’, ‘visionary’ and ‘tastemaker’ are often used to describe Dennis ‘Dego’ Macfarlane - and deservedly so.
My First CDR | Ben Houghton
We were first introduced to Ben Houghton at a recent CDR Melbourne and were thrilled to hear that this wasn’t his first session. Ben attended the very early Melbourne sessions and CDR Berlin. However what really left a mark on us was his incredibly tight unreleased track “Babez” aired at Loop.
Preamble | Kay Suzuki
"CDR is one of my main creative resources and home for real music lovers"
My First CDR | Daisuke Tanabe
Blowing our own trumpet isn’t really our thing but when we stand back and reflect that for many music makers CDR has been a vital catalyst in their trajectories, it’s heart-warming. One artist we’re particularly proud to have seen brave the move from playing music privately to publicly is Daisuke Tanabe. While in London from 2001 to 2006, Daisuke would frequent CDR sessions (on Thursdays back then), now living in Chiba, he answered our Qs about his CDR memories.
My First CDR | Eric Lau
Watching artists mature through their musical careers is a major part of the sentimental side to CDR. It's been a while since we first crossed paths with Eric Lau and those Freeness days. Definitely, time we caught up with the London-based producer, let's go!
Preamble | Cuetec
There's something entrancing about tracks which get called midtempo, or even slow house. Songs you find yourself bopping to as they chug along at 100-110bpm. Kwaito tracks have the knack and Cuetec's shown us via CDR Berlin sessions that he's also mastering that groove. Before he makes the step from production to playing in public this Thursday, we had a little talk.
Preamble | Cosmin TRG
Back in 2007 and '08, Cosmin TRG's releases on Hessle Audio, Subway and Tempa announced his relevance at a time when so-called dubstep was edging closer to its house and techno parentage. Since then he's continued to add to a growing stack of quality 12" releases with two albums out on 50 Weapons, Simulat (2011) and Gordian (2013). Prior to in-depth happenings this Thursday at CDR Berlin, we shared a preamble.
My First CDR | R.O.S.H
If you've been to any of our sessions in London it's likely that you would have seen, or perhaps even met Roshan Chauhan, aka R.O.S.H, as he's one of the most friendly and talented producers of what we're calling the class of 2015/16. Hailing from Herftfordshire R.O.S.H's tracks err on the more techno side of things, with similarities to producers like Hodge and the like.
Preamble | Comfort Fit
From Tokyo Dawn (Records) to day and nights in Berlin, we Forget and Remember* when we first heard Comfort Fit's beats.
Preamble | Warren Xclence
When listening to Ego Ella May's superb EP, The Tree, we cast eyes on the credits to see who'd crafted the productions. A name stood out, Warren XCLnce. Delving deeper we sought out Warren's own productions and were dazzled by what we heard. Time to give the man a platform.
My First CDR | Ant Orange
Ant Orange is a regular to CDR Berlin and someone we’ve wanted to pick the brain of for a while.
My First CDR | Andy Ukhtomsky
Andy Ukhtomsky’s sound is a genuine reflection of geography; the Australian bushland that he grew up in as a child, Nintendo NES games right through to Slavic 4x4 styling
My First CDR | Alphabets Heaven
Not pinned to a single genre or style, Jonny Widley (aka Alphabets Heaven) has moved effortless between different sounds the past few years.
My First CDR | Amateur Dance
Amateur Dance first hit our radar at the innaugral CDR Melbourne at Loop.
My First CDR | Fatima
Fatima is an old friend of CDR’s and we’re really excited about the release of her fantastic debut album Yellow Memories on Eglo Records, whose founders Alex Nut and Sam Shepherd (Floating Points) first met at our Plastic People sessions.
My First CDR | LCAO
LCAO (Linear Combination of Atomic Orbitals) is is a solo project inspired by the writer Primo Levi and, above all, by his work “The Periodic Table”.
Preamble | AYBEE
Deepblak don, AYBEE joins us at this month’s CDR Berlin to share his wisdom and technical know-how.
Preamble | Alex Nut
Head-honcho at Eglo Records Alexander Nut kindly took some time out of his busy schedule to chat to us about his first CDR experiences.
Preamble | Tenderlonious
As per CDR session usual, we had a little catch up with Tenderlonious ahead of his session at The Glove That Fits next week:
Preamble | Ikonika
As usual, we had a catch up with Ikonika ahead of her session - in conversation with Shy One at Rye Wax on 17th April:
Preamble | Big Space
As per CDR session usual, we had a little catch up with Big Space ahead of his session in Johannesburg tonight:
My First CDR | Scrimshire
"It was really formative as an experience. I wish I could have bottled it and kept it over the years..."
Preamble | object blue
As per CDR session usual, we had a little catch up with object blue ahead of her session at The Glove that Fits.

Keep up to date on all things CDR
Since we started back in 2001, CDR has been all about community, creating spaces for people to connect and develop through music.
Back in the Plastic People days, you could fit all of us in one small room around one soundsystem. Today, our projects and programmes extend from the dancefloor to schools, youth centres, as well as grassroots clubs and venues across the country and further afield. But in challenging times, with grassroots organisations like ours closing all around us, every bit of support counts.
Your help will enable us to continue delivering music programmes and events in the UK to the people who need it most. Our mission is simple: to build an equitable music ecosystem for producers and artists.
