Preamble | Eva Be

Eva Be has carved a niche for herself on the electronic club music scene as both a producer and a DJ with her distinctive and elegant flair.

Expect no less than the best when Berlin’s “First Lady of Dub, House & Techno” takes to the turntables. At next week's CDR Berlin, Eva will play a mix of your and her tunes so bring'em on to hear them on Prince Charles' fine Funktion One soundsystem. First, a preamble...

When and where did you first attend or hear about CDR? What do you recall?

I went to the very first edition of CDR [Berlin], after being invited by my good friend and CDR co-promoter Dirk Rumpff.

I can remember the quite small underground location by the Spree ( "chez jacki"! ) and how astonished I was, how many young producers actually brought their music with them, to hear them out loud the first time in a club context

What are you thoughts/feelings about DJing tracks submitted especially for Open CDR when you represent at Prince Charles on October 10th?

It's quite a task. normally, of course, as a DJ you play the tracks you know and love to play to the crowd. with open CDR it's a completely different adventure. But even though I'm pretty excited ( and yes - a bit nervous, too ) I think it will be a great experience for me, the producers and - of course for the audience!

Now 2013 is entering it's final quarter, is there a song/album shaping up as your track(s) of the year?

It's really hard to make a pick, but if I'd really have to, it would be the King Krule album. it's soooo good.

Who/What has also been on heavy rotation on your audio player of late?

Karat - 'Der Blaue Planet' ( well - on my kid's CD player that is!)

Please talk us through the track you last [cmd] ‘S’d ? ([ctrl] ‘S’ to PC users)  [in other words, last project you saved]

It's a nice & deep track for a forthcoming EP of mine called Closer. I just finished recording the vocals with the very talented singer Ben Ivory.

It's a warm builder of a track and though it's not finished yet, I can guess it will be massive ( hahahahaha!)

Finally, have you any advice or words of warning for producers/musicians developing musical works in progress to play at CDR?

Guys! Don't over compress your stuff. Sounds. Need. Space.
