Preamble | Daniel Wang

A disco scholar? "Professor of Vogue"? Either honorary title is fitting for the DJ, producer and music educator based in Berlin for 10 years now. 'Like Some Dream', Daniel Wang is best known for his label, Balihu Records, his joyfully entrancing DJ sets, and carefree informed opinions.

We're eager to hear what he has to say this Thursday at CDR Berlin. Before then we interrupted his recent visit to Brazil to share a short Q+A. Read on.

What do CDR audiences at Prince Charles have in store for them when you represent in Berlin for our Summerjam + BBQ on August 8th?

We are discussing one particular topic: voguing! (Part of gay and streetdance culture from NYC to global phenomenon, 1989- today)

Is there a song that is shaping up as your track of Summer 2013?

No, nothing really, not one track, no new music.

Who/What has been on heavy rotation on your audio player of late?

Heavy rotation: some albums by Vince Montana, Crown Heights Affair, and Joe Thomas.

With food available at our Berlin summerjam, have you a favourite BBQ dish/recipe?

I try not to eat too much meat actually, but I am NOT vegetarian

Please talk us through the track you last [cmd] ‘S’d ? ([ctrl] ‘S’ to PC users) [in other words, last project you saved]

That would be our track 'Rondo para Tercera Luna' which Jules Etienne and I did for Adidas/Y-3 compilation, out now. It is like a Latin-electronic melody with acoustic guitar.

Finally, have you any advice or words of warning for producers/musicians developing musical works in progress to play at CDR?

Warning: if your music is basically built with software, either sampling or looping 2-4 measures in your laptop synth program, I probably will not find it so interesting.

...

Many thanks to Adrien Thibault for his excellent photo from a Parisian Club Lonely party.

At the time of publishing, there are still a few free spaces to register for CDR Berlin this Thursday. Info here.
