From Tokyo Dawn (Records) to day and nights in Berlin, we Forget and Remember* when we first heard Comfort Fit's beats. Prior to his appearance at CDR Berlin next Thursday, a Q+A to get heads moving.

When and where did you first hear about or attend CDR? What do you recall?

Mostly Robot told me about their CDR Session in 2012, which was afterwards the first one that I've watched from the video archive. My first time attending was a couple of weeks ago to see my colleague Florian Grote introducing Maschine Studio.

What do CDR Berlin attendees have in store for them when you represent at Prince Charles on December 5th?

Something with the grammar might be wrong here... do you mean what I'm going to bring to the table? A 20-30 min Live Showcase with my Maschine Set-up incl some fingerdrumming routines and heavy controllerism.

Please can you identify a couple of key adjustments in your music making and/or how the "industry" has changed over your career?

In the last ten years I've gone through a metamorphosis from isolated bedroom nerd to a Live performer. Priorities definitely have shifted from releasing music over to playing live performances.

Since music is now basically available for free, the unique experience of a real live show became sooooo important. It also changed my artistic perspective. Instead of composing and programming and thinking through every millisecond of track I prefer 'lose' stuff much more than ever before. Most of the tracks in my live repertoire never ever have been fixed in a final state or audio recording. They progress with development of my playing skills and not by the intellectual effort of composing.

Who/What has been on heavy rotation on your audio player of late?

c_l_n_k Black Ecstasy (Error Broadcast Records)

Please talk us through the track you last [cmd] ‘S’d ? ([ctrl] ‘S’ to PC users) [in other words, last project you saved]

Saving tracks is over-rated... But if I would have been asked to present a track I'd choose 'The Holy Moment' from my 2013 Album Worlds Falling Apart (First Word Records).

Nevertheless it would take AGES to explain and talk through this track.... so I'd rather stay with "saving tracks is over-rated"

Finally, have you any advice or words of warning for producers/musicians developing musical works in progress to play at CDR? (CDR info if needs)

I personally find that "humour" plays an important role in musical compositions. Something's gotta make me laugh - and that's especially true for instrumental music.

Maybe that also points down to the aspect of intelligence in music. When I listen to a piece of the artist Dimlite e.g. I'm overwhelmed by the massive amount of intelligence in there.

And that, strangely enough, makes me laugh very hard. If I'm like "wow, that's totally insane" and I wonder if the artist needs some psychiatric help, then it's a good piece of music for me.
