“Warmth started its life off as a very rushed and terrible remix I did for an artist. It deservedly got parked for about a year because - I need to emphasise this - the remix really was awful.
The bassline was always something i was attached to however, and after going to the Daytimers parties that happened over summer and autumn 2021, i was feeling super inspired by the jungle and UKG sounds i was hearing. I decided to rework the remix into something that took from those influences whilst putting my own twist to it.
The breakdown in the track was inspired by the bombastic and emotional rave inspired sounds from recent Overmono tracks, with the tekky goodness from Floating Points productions.
It was made in Ableton, the bassline is an altered preset from Sonic Academy’s ANA2 soft synth plugin (not something i’ve heard many people use!), blended with a sub and mixed with distortion and overdrive to bring out the mids and highs. This combined with some old jungle break loops I have (no idea where i got them from) gave it an old school feel with the highs quite brittle sounding, something i quite like in electronic music i’m drawn to, almost deliberately bad.
Hearing it on the Corsica sound system was frankly terrifying, but i thought it sounded decent, maybe the bass needs to be taken down a notch. The reaction to it was great though!
This is one of those tracks where I keep tweaking the mix and structure, but I think this is finally it.”

Keep up to date on all things CDR
Since we started back in 2001, CDR has been all about community, creating spaces for people to connect and develop through music.
Back in the Plastic People days, you could fit all of us in one small room around one soundsystem. Today, our projects and programmes extend from the dancefloor to schools, youth centres, as well as grassroots clubs and venues across the country and further afield. But in challenging times, with grassroots organisations like ours closing all around us, every bit of support counts.
Your help will enable us to continue delivering music programmes and events in the UK to the people who need it most. Our mission is simple: to build an equitable music ecosystem for producers and artists.
