I started making Unknown a few weeks ago, focussing on moving away from my traditional 4/4 rhythm production and experimenting more with programming drums. For me, the bassline is the key element of this track to create a darkroom moody basement vibe and this was created using the Abeltons Clean Rhythm Funk Guitar plugin, which really gave the bass that extra distorted feeling. I also find I always work best with a vocal sample to pull from and I found this Branden The Young "N.Y.C" track on Tracklib and just started playing around with the vocals until the "Yeah" repeated sat smoothly with the bass and drums. The track was made over the course of 3 days and I did a quick mix before heading down to CDR and seeing how it sounded on Corsica Studio's sound system!
Quick track insight is that the only reason it is called Unknown is because the track wasn't named before submitting to CDR - still working on a name.

Keep up to date on all things CDR
Since we started back in 2001, CDR has been all about community, creating spaces for people to connect and develop through music.
Back in the Plastic People days, you could fit all of us in one small room around one soundsystem. Today, our projects and programmes extend from the dancefloor to schools, youth centres, as well as grassroots clubs and venues across the country and further afield. But in challenging times, with grassroots organisations like ours closing all around us, every bit of support counts.
Your help will enable us to continue delivering music programmes and events in the UK to the people who need it most. Our mission is simple: to build an equitable music ecosystem for producers and artists.
