Fearless Few Challenge #35
Tackle ‘Night Silk Threads’
Further strengthening the family ties between the two initiatives, CDR and production challenge collective The Fearless Few are pleased to offer you the opportunity to remix ‘Night Silk Threads’, the latest EP by Scottish vocalist, multi-instrumental live loop artist & producer Johnny McFadzean aka The Woods, co-produced and mixed by none other than Tony Nwachukwu.
Described by Clash Magazine as “a shimmering web of vocal loops and pedals – sinuous musical invention and experimentation”, Johnny’s music has been featured on BBC 6 Music, Balamii, WorldwideFM and Amazing Radio, and earlier this summer he was announced Richer Unsigned / Q Magazine's Artist of the Week and The Unsigned Guide’s Spotlight Artist of the month.
In addition to being an accomplished artist whose live credentials count performances at venues including Sketch, Shoreditch House and Sebright Arms, Johnny is a regular CDR attendee and a member of The Fearless Few whose latest release Daredevilry, a compilation of highlights generated by production challenges tackled by members of the collective, features his track ‘Just Do Nothing’.
Go against the clock (but take five hours)
As those of you who know about The Fearless Few will know, the rules governing the many challenges members of the collective have tackled over the past three years tend not to be too complicated and challenge #35 is no exception. As was the case when Fearless members remixed recent Hyperdub signee Loraine James and Andrew Weatherall-endorsed Rude Audio, you are basically free to choose any track off the ‘Night Silk Threads’ EP and do whatever you want with it. However, with the The Fearless Few being involved, one important rule does apply: for your track to be counted as a valid submission, you may spend no more than five hours bringing it into this world.
What’s in it for you
Once the deadline has passed, The Fearless Few will create a SoundCloud playlist featuring all submissions – you will need to set your track to ‘public’ for it to be included – and share this playlist with Johnny and Tony who will then sit down and listen to the submissions and decide on a handful of tracks that will be released later this year as an official remix EP.
In order for your track to be included in the playlist, you will need to share your submission on the Fearless Few Facebook page, which you are welcome to use for feedback on WIP versions. For those not on Facebook, please send The Fearless Few a DM on SoundCloud (see below).

Keep up to date on all things CDR
Since we started back in 2001, CDR has been all about community, creating spaces for people to connect and develop through music.
Back in the Plastic People days, you could fit all of us in one small room around one soundsystem. Today, our projects and programmes extend from the dancefloor to schools, youth centres, as well as grassroots clubs and venues across the country and further afield. But in challenging times, with grassroots organisations like ours closing all around us, every bit of support counts.
Your help will enable us to continue delivering music programmes and events in the UK to the people who need it most. Our mission is simple: to build an equitable music ecosystem for producers and artists.
If you have any questions or want to support in other ways please contact us at support-us@createdefinerelease.com
