A pivotal figure in UK beat-making, Morgan Zarate has seen his drumming, production and programming excellence from the greatness of Spacek to Hyperdub. Don't be fooled by a lack of Discogs details, trust! Ever-able to create and shape tracks that punch and swing, for this CDR at Strøm session (in conjunction with Native Instruments and Red Bull Music Academy) Morgan will first show the workshop crowd how he utilizes a Maschine (for a track forthcoming on Hyperdub) and then later DJ in to the night. We shared a quick Q+A first. Listen and read on!

When and where did you first hear about or attend CDR? What do you recall?

I was there at the first CDR as I've known Tony quite a while. I used to be a regular at Plastic People for their nights, always inspiring to hear what people were making + I always brought whatever I was doing to play and hear it on Plastics speakers, was great.

What do CDR/Strøm attendees have in store for them when you represent in Copenhagen on Friday?

Friday I'll go thru a track i made which is on my new next EP on Hyperdub, from starting it using iMaschine and finishing it in Logic.

When did you first get your hands on a Maschine? How does it fit within your production or live setup?

I got Maschine maybe 2 years ago, it's either I'm making beats on it standalone or I open it in Logic and use it as a module, the libraries amazing for sure + u can sequence on it in Logic too.

Who/What has been on heavy rotation on your audio player of late?

Arctic Monkeys Do i wanna know

Please talk us through the track you last [cmd] ‘S’d ? ([ctrl] ‘S’ to PC users) [in other words, last project you saved]

Last track I saved is something I'm working on for THESHINING with a singer called Maille who you should watch out for!

Finally, have you any advice or words of warning for producers/musicians developing musical works in progress to play at CDR?

Make'em play it loud.

Full details on this year's CDR at Strøm here. Copenhageners, make it down!
