Preamble| I. JORDAN
You’re proudly from Doncaster, for those that don’t know, what is the dance music scene like there?
It's close to Sheffield so I grew up with bassline and garage etc. I also grew up with happy hardcore, trance, donk. A lot of northern working class sounds.
What would you tell your younger self that’s just started producing?
Don’t worry about the theory and getting it right. Ignore all the gatekeepers. Have fun with the process.
What are three records you never leave home without?
Lisa Lashes - Lookin’ Good (Anna Savage & Tom Berry Remix)
DJ Heartstring - Can't Stop The Night
What’s in store for I.JORDAN this 2023?
Album writing! Lots of collabs, REFLECTIONS tour, lots of foundation building..
You’ve been producing for (5/6 years), what is your favourite “cheat code”?
Reuse drums! Reuse sounds and loops. Change their pitch or some slight editing so it sounds different. Build templates. Anything that makes the process quicker.
What are the key inspirations behind “Give It 2 Me?”
It's a raw track I made during an intense period of emotion. It's the feelings of new relationship energy plus insecurity. I couldn't listen to it for quite a while after I made it but enough time has passed now I can listen with different ears.
Your sound floats between nostalgic house banger and emotional tear jerkers, how do you approach this in your song writing?
I honestly don't know. I wish I had an answer to this. It just comes out of me lol. I like to focus on a repetitive melody that often gets me hooked on first listen and build off that as a central point.
As a producer, are you a software or hardware geezer or a bit of both?
Software but trying to get more into hardware now!
What can we expect from your production talk with us?
I hope a bit of everything! I'm not gonna sit there and tell people how it's done, as everyone’s different. I want to talk about the whole approach to making music and not just one specific detail, I just hope people can take away a little bit of helpful info!
Talk us through the track you last [cmd] ‘S’d ? ([ctrl] ‘S’ to PC users)?
A collab track with my friend Felix who's doing the vocals, it'll be on my album. Very excited.
And finally, for those just getting to grips with producing and keen to get their Works In Progress out there, what advice do you have for them?
Trust your ear, be patient with the learning curve, test things out in as many different spaces as possible especially clubs, also in cars, in your airpods etc.

Keep up to date on all things CDR
Since we started back in 2001, CDR has been all about community, creating spaces for people to connect and develop through music.
Back in the Plastic People days, you could fit all of us in one small room around one soundsystem. Today, our projects and programmes extend from the dancefloor to schools, youth centres, as well as grassroots clubs and venues across the country and further afield. But in challenging times, with grassroots organisations like ours closing all around us, every bit of support counts.
Your help will enable us to continue delivering music programmes and events in the UK to the people who need it most. Our mission is simple: to build an equitable music ecosystem for producers and artists.
