Acclaimed singer-songwriter Yazmin Lacey joins us in this Artist Talk.

Yazmin Lacey is a singer-songwriter who knows something about coming into her own. She came to music late, she says – “It's never late, but late in the perspective of that I'm doing it now”. Having written in her bedroom for her whole life, she began to play acoustic shows in 2014. As her reputation grew locally in Nottingham, she came to meet the diverse group of musicians who would form her band.

Since her 2017 debut EP ‘Black Moon’, Yazmin Lacey has gone on to produce numerous projects including ‘Morning Matters’, ‘Two Takes’ EP with Congi and most recently, her debut album ‘Voice Notes’ in 2023 which saw billboard coverage from Amazon Music, Spotify and esteemed reviews from The Guardian, Resident Advisor and Clash magazine.

Sonically she is non-categorisable, made up of many styles and influences. “There's lots of different flavours in there in terms of different ways I express myself,” she shares. “The things that I listen to, music that I love – it’s hard to place it. In some ways I would call it soul because that's where it comes from, my own soul. But I always avoid that; it's all perception.”
