Artist Talk | Joe Armon-Jones and Maxwell Owin
Joe Armon-Jones & Maxwell Owin are two powerhouses. Individually, they’re both pivotal figures and long time collaborators spanning across genres. Aside from being producers, Joe Armon-Jones is a composer and keyboardist for Ezra Collective, while Maxwell Owin’s production credits include Pinty and as a core member of various London jazz and improvisation based projects plus his own imprint Raising Deep.
Together they produce music that draws from their vast musical knowledge. There’s soul, improvisation, jungle, dubstep, drill and of course jazz, all featuring in their productions. And their work with an equally diverse range of vocalists and MCs including Rocks FOE, Fatima, Shabaka Hutchings and Lex Amor, all feature on their album “Archetype” on label AQUARII. No easy feat, the album was 6 years in the making. But their distinct style of fusing together bass heavy dub with contemporary club sounds, while firmly repping the modern jazz scene, had garnered them a loyal fan base spanning across generations.

Keep up to date on all things CDR
Since we started back in 2001, CDR has been all about community, creating spaces for people to connect and develop through music.
Back in the Plastic People days, you could fit all of us in one small room around one soundsystem. Today, our projects and programmes extend from the dancefloor to schools, youth centres, as well as grassroots clubs and venues across the country and further afield. But in challenging times, with grassroots organisations like ours closing all around us, every bit of support counts.
Your help will enable us to continue delivering music programmes and events in the UK to the people who need it most. Our mission is simple: to build an equitable music ecosystem for producers and artists.
