Mr Scruff
An electronic music legend, Manchester based producer, DJ and artist Mr. Scruff has been producing dancefloor classics for over 25 years. Cutting his teeth at DJing in the early 90s, his eclectic music taste accompanied by his own visuals and animations earned him a loyal following over the years.
In 1995 he released his first release, “Hocus Pocus” on Manchester based label Robs Records before a few years later making his debut on Ninja Tune with his first full length album release. Since then, he’s had a steady flow of releases, dipping in and out from electro, trip-hop, electronica, nu jazz with elements of soul. More recently, his collaboration with OneDa, Warriors Daughter is an old school breaks flex.
We’re thrilled to be welcoming him to Manchester’s Soup Kitchen to share his decades long knowledge with us and for a deep dive into his creative process.
For those new to CDR Sessions, the event centres on an in-depth, production focussed interview with the guest artist, exploring their career and creative process. Our events are for all music lovers, producers and non-producers alike. The talk is flanked by ‘OpenCDR’ - a DJ set of audience music submissions. This is a chance for music makers to:
- Hear your own music on an amazing club sound system
- Artists of all experience levels welcome
- No restrictions - all genres & styles welcome
- Bring your music at any stage of development - from rough idea to final master, and everything in between
- Join a supportive community of artists & producers

Keep up to date on all things CDR
Since we started back in 2001, CDR has been all about community, creating spaces for people to connect and develop through music.
Back in the Plastic People days, you could fit all of us in one small room around one soundsystem. Today, our projects and programmes extend from the dancefloor to schools, youth centres, as well as grassroots clubs and venues across the country and further afield. But in challenging times, with grassroots organisations like ours closing all around us, every bit of support counts.
Your help will enable us to continue delivering music programmes and events in the UK to the people who need it most. Our mission is simple: to build an equitable music ecosystem for producers and artists.
